Rosacea is a common skin disorder that causes redness, pustules and “broken” capillaries on the face. It can occur at any age, but is most likely to start in the 30-40 year age group. It more frequently affects women and those with fair skin.
One of the first symptoms is a tendency to flush, which becomes more frequent and noticeable over time. Eventually the redness becomes constant but changes in intensity.
People with rosacea can also develop inflammed red bumps, often with pustules. They also tend to have sensitive, easily irritated skin.
Some of the symptoms of rosacea can be settled by the anti-inflammatory effect of a series of skin rejuvenation (SRA) treatments. The pulsed dye laser is also effective in reducing the visible blood vessels. Some find topical medications to be of use.
Although rosacea can not be cured, its symptoms can usually be managed with appropriate treatment.
