Medical micro-dermabrasion is a technique to resurface and smooth the skin. It is totally different to the old style dermabrasion which involved using a rotating wire brush or sandpaper to remove the outer skin layers, creating a wound. This old style dermabrasion is rarely used today as better and safer alternatives (such as lasers) are now employed.
Medical micro-dermabrasion is principally a deep cleansing, exfoliating technique using a handpiece with embedded diamond chips and an adjustable vacuum. Most people quite enjoy the procedure which is done without any requirement for anaesthesia. After the procedure, the treated area will look flushed due to increased circulation. This subsides quickly and routine skin care can be commenced immediately afterwards, as can the wearing of make up. If there are any acne pustules present these will be “sucked out” by the machine.
Microdermabrasion can assist in the treatment of many problems including acne and acne scarring, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, dry or oily skin, dull skin, “smoker’s skin”, blackheads and many others.
