Revlite® laser for pigmented lesions

As well as the Diolite laser, the Revlite® laser is sometimes used to treat larger pigmented lesions.

The laser light is specifically absorbed by the melanin pigment in the targeted lesion, resulting in coagulation of this target with subsequent flaking off of the lesion.

Pigmented lesions, such as dark birth marks, naevi of Ota and, café-au-lait spots can be treated with the Revlite® laser. Depending on the spot and its location, it will look darker or scabby afterwards and will flake off in a few days to a week, sometimes taking up to two weeks when a larger area is treated. After treatment of some larger pigmented lesions, the area may look slightly grey-tinged or superficially bruised, may bleed, and may also be a little swollen. The sensation is that of a very short sting (similar to the snap of a rubber band on the skin), the intensity varying with the sensitivity of the site. In some cases, either local anaesthetic cream or injection may be used prior to treatment to help with the level of comfort (the doctor will discuss this with you at your initial consultation).

Lesions may require further treatment for complete resolution. This could be done six weeks after the initial session.
