Certain products can be used to induce collagen growth in the skin to alleviate sunken facial contours, principally for the cheeks. Depending on the degree of correction required, at least two or more treatments will be required. Anaesthetic cream is usually applied prior to treatment. Injections usually take about 15 minutes and then a short period of massaging occurs.
Massage of the treated areas should be performed each day for a couple of weeks to encourage smooth collagen growth. Further sessions of injecting can be scheduled six weeks later as collagen growth usually occurs over this period of time. As well as improving facial contours, the skin texture also improves in the treated areas. Results are quite long term with most patients choosing to have a single maintenance treatment 18 months to 2 years after their initial series of treatments.
