The Diolite laser can be used for pigmented lesions such as freckles, solar and seborrhoeic keratoses. “Liver” or age spots (on the hands or face) may also be treated with laser.
During treatment with the Diolite laser, the laser is specifically absorbed by the melanin pigment in the targeted lesion, resulting in coagulation of this target with subsequent flaking off of the lesion. Most patients feel a short sharp sting, the intensity varying with the sensitivity of the site.
If the lesions are near the eye area, there can be some short term puffiness around the eyes.
The treated pigmented lesions will look darker or scabby immediately after the treatment, and will flake off within a few days to a week or two, depending on the site. The newly healed skin may appear pale pink, and in some instances, the area may appear depressed – this will “fill out” over time (a week or two). Body lesions will be slower than this, possibly taking around two weeks to resolve.
Some lesions may require further treatment for complete resolution. This could be done six weeks after the initial session.
